The Southern University College, Tan Sri Dato’ JC Chang Museum and Art Gallery hosted the third International Women’s Day Art Exhibition, “The Sensational Lotus Pond,” in celebration of International Women’s Day 2025. The exhibition invited 50 female artists from Malaysia and Singapore to present 100 artworks, which opened successfully from March 7th to March 31st.
The opening ceremony was attended by Southern University College Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors, Datin Janice Teh Hwee Tiang; Asst. Prof. Ts. Dr. Teo Pei Kian, Apple (Vice President and Dean of FAD); Special Guest Puan Sri Chan Pui Leorn; Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Chuah Joon Huang (President); Prof. ChM. Dr. Leong Loong Kong (Vice President); Tan Chai Puan (Director of the MAG); and members of the Board of Directors.
In addition, alumni of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) Singapore, Oscar Ng, demonstrated “Classical Gold Foil Art” following the opening ceremony.
In her speech, Datin Janice Teh Hwee Tiang stated that the event not only celebrated International Women’s Day but also showcased an art feast filled with feminine charm. The artworks by the 50 talented female artists, with their unique perspectives and delicate brushstrokes, transformed the elegance, purity, and resilience of the lotus flower into breathtaking pieces. These works are expressions of and tributes to the female spirit.
Vice President and Dean of FAD, Asst. Prof. Ts. Dr. Teo Pei Kian (Apple), shared that the exhibition vividly expressed the multiple identities of women in society, family, and personal growth, demonstrating their wisdom and strength to the world. She stated that women have broken through traditions and limitations, using silent brushes and sculptural language to present the infinite possibilities and values of multiculturalism. They face challenges fearlessly and bravely chase their dreams. She likened women to lotus flowers, which bloom with the brightest light at every stage of life. Through their artistic talents, they touch the world, change the world, and live a brilliant life.
Director of the Museum and Art Gallery, Tan Chai Puan, mentioned that there is a lotus pond on campus, located in the corner of the “Hua Yuan” garden. He said that plans are underway for an upcoming signing ceremony with the Singapore Nanyang University Alumni Association for a “Stories of Nanyang People” videography project, which will take place at the stone bridge in “Hua Yuan.”
The event was supported by Premier Art, Sakura Colour Malaysia, and the distributor of Baohong Watercolour Paper in Malaysia. Media promotion helped the exhibition gain widespread attention and public recognition. The organizers sincerely thank all the visitors for their enthusiastic support of the event.
南方大学学院文物与艺术馆举办第三届国际38妇女节艺术特展2025【荷塘妙曲】,邀请马新两地50位女性艺术家呈献100件作品,并在3月7日顺利开展至31日为止。
上述画展由南方大学学院副董事长拿汀郑惠珍及副校长兼艺术与设计学院院长赵佩娟助理教授,特邀嘉宾潘斯里刘陈慧玉、校长蔡润煌教授、副校长梁泷光教授,馆长陈再藩及董理事们见证下顺利完成开幕仪式。 此外,新加坡南洋艺术学院校友黄惠玲(Oscar Ng)在仪式之后现场演示“箔金艺画”。
副董事长拿汀郑惠珍致词时表示,庆祝国际妇女节的同时也欣赏一场充满女性魅力的艺术盛宴。汇聚50位才华横溢的女性艺术家的独特视角和细腻笔触,把荷花的清丽脱俗、坚韧不拔,化作一幅幅令人惊艳的画作,都是女性精神的一种表达和赞美。
副校长兼艺术与设计学院院长赵佩娟说,女性在社会、家庭以及个人成长中的多重身份的生动表达,向世人展示了女性的智慧与力量。她表示,女性们突破了传统与局限,用无声的画笔和雕塑的语言,以多元文化展现的无限可能的价值,不畏风雨、勇敢逐梦。她说,女性们好比荷花一般,在人生的每个阶段绽放出最耀眼的光彩,通过艺术才华打动世界、改变世界,并且活出精彩人生。
馆长陈再藩表示,校园内的一处景观有着荷塘,即是取名“华园”的花园内一角。他说计划在近期与新加坡南大校友会签约,进行一项“南大人的故事”拍摄项目,有关签约仪式就安排在“华园”的石桥上进行。
