The Department of Chinese Studies inherits the tradition of Sinology and encompasses teaching and research in the fields of ancient and contemporary Chinese language, literature, history, and philosophy. It goes beyond the conventional disciplinary boundaries and includes emerging disciplines such as Malaysian Chinese literature, Chinese dialect groups, Southeast Asian cultures, postcolonial cultures, and comparative studies between the East and the West. Through specialized knowledge imparted by the faculty, students develop excellent analytical skills, precise and proficient language proficiency, and enhanced humanistic literacy, enabling them to excel in academia and various professional fields.
